Privacy policy

WriteButler (“we”, “us”) makes a desktop app that drafts replies to messages on your screen. This policy explains what data we handle and why. Questions or requests: hello@writebutler.com.

The writebutler.com website (including the early-access waitlist) and early-access builds of the WriteButler desktop app for macOS and Linux.

Waitlist email. When you join the waitlist we store your email address with Loops.so, the email platform that acts as our processor. We use it only to contact you about early access and product updates. You can unsubscribe from any email we send, or ask us to delete your address entirely.

Theme preference. Your light/dark choice is kept in your browser's local storage. It never leaves your device.

Analytics.We use Plausible, a privacy-friendly analytics service, to see how many people visit the site and join the waitlist. Plausible is cookieless and doesn't collect any personal data: no IP addresses stored, no cross-site tracking, no ad profiles. We never use advertising cookies or trackers.

Capture is explicit. The app screenshots only the region you drag a box over, only when you press the hotkey. Nothing is watched passively.

How captures are used. The selected region is sent with your suggestion request and used to generate replies. Generation is performed by OpenAI, acting as our processor. Our server is stateless: it does not store your screenshots or the replies it generates.

Your account.You sign in with Google, which shares your name and email address with us to identify your account. We don't receive your Google password.

Clipboard only. Replies you pick are copied to your clipboard. The app never sends messages on your behalf.

We share data only with the processors needed to run the service: Loops.so (waitlist emails), OpenAI (reply generation), Vercel (hosting, serving the website and API), and Plausible (aggregate, cookieless website analytics). We never sell your data, and we disclose it beyond these processors only if the law requires it.

We keep your waitlist email until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. Screenshots and generated replies are not retained; they exist only for the duration of the request. To delete your data, email hello@writebutler.com.

You can ask us what data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email us and we'll respond promptly. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA.

If we change this policy, we'll update this page and its effective date. For material changes affecting waitlist members or app users, we'll notify you by email.
