Refund policy

Effective August 11, 2026

In short: WriteButler has a free plan, so you can try it properly before you pay anything. If you buy a paid plan and it is not for you, email us within 30 days and we will refund you in full. No forms, no reason required.

This policy explains how refunds work for WriteButler paid plans. It forms part of our Terms of Service.

1. Who you are buying from

WriteButler's paid plans are sold through Dodo Payments. Dodo Payments is the merchant of record and legal seller for each purchase, handles payment and taxes, and processes approved refunds.

You can request a refund from us at hello@writebutler.com. We review the request and, when approved, instruct Dodo Payments to return the money to the original payment method.

Dodo Payments' Buyer Terms also apply to your purchase. Where our policy is more generous than theirs, ours is what we will honour.

2. Try before you pay

Every WriteButler account includes a free plan with a weekly allowance, at no cost and with no card required. We would rather you find out WriteButler is not for you before you pay than after. If you are unsure, stay on the free plan for a week first.

3. The 30-day refund

If you buy a WriteButler paid plan, you can ask for a full refund within 30 days of the charge. You do not need to give a reason, and it does not matter how much you used the app in that time.

This applies to your first purchase of a monthly plan, an annual plan, or a one-time licence.

4. Renewals

Paid plans renew automatically until you cancel. We will email you before an annual plan renews.

If a renewal charge catches you off guard, tell us within 30 days of the charge and we will refund it in full, provided you have not made significant use of the new period. Forgetting to cancel is a normal thing to do and we are not going to keep your money over it.

Cancelling is not the same as a refund. When you cancel, your plan stays active until the end of the period you already paid for, and then drops to the free plan. You keep your account and your saved settings either way.

5. After a refund

When a refund goes through, your paid plan ends and your account returns to the free plan. Your account, your settings, and anything stored locally on your Mac are not touched.

6. How to request one

Email hello@writebutler.com from the address on your account, and include the order or receipt number from your Dodo Payments confirmation email if you have it. That is the whole process. We aim to reply to refund requests within a few business days, and we will tell you where things stand if anything takes longer.

7. How long it takes

Once Dodo Payments processes the refund, the time it takes to appear depends on the original payment method, bank, and card network. We will confirm when processing has started and help investigate if it does not arrive.

8. If something is wrong, talk to us first

If WriteButler is broken, billing you incorrectly, or not doing what we said it does, email hello@writebutler.com before starting a chargeback with your bank. Chargebacks take weeks, are worse for you than a refund, and we will almost certainly just refund you and fix the problem.

9. Abuse

We may decline a refund where an account is repeatedly bought and refunded, or where a purchase is clearly fraudulent. This is here for the rare bad-faith case, not for you.

10. Changes

We may update this policy. The version in force is the one published here on the date of your purchase, and we will not apply a less generous version retroactively to a purchase you already made.

11. Statutory rights

Nothing in this policy limits any refund or withdrawal right you have under the consumer law that applies to you. Where that law gives you more than this policy does, that law wins.

12. Contact

WriteButler is operated by Joshua Tonga, an individual based in the Philippines. Questions about billing or refunds: hello@writebutler.com.

Plans, billing, renewal, and cancellation are covered in section 4 of our Terms of Service.
